But when the children return, he is excited for their return and described to be unhappy since they had left. Instead, he allows the events to occur and does nothing to try to stop them. He does not stick up for his children or try to protect them when the step mother suggests leaving them to die in the forest. The father is described as unhappy and at times he seems weak. ![]() She is an extremely flat character, as she only possesses negative traits and continuously acts in malicious ways towards the children. The step mother is evil, as she convinces the children's father to leave the children to die in the forest. Hansel and Gretel look out for each other and stick together to ensure their survival. Even though they are put in traumatic circumstances, they come up with creative solutions and act in mature ways. The children, both Hansel and Gretel, are smart and loyal to each other. ![]()
